Uruguay April 2018: Volkswagen back to #1 but Renault shines at +53%
Renault sales surge 53% year-on-year in April in Uruguay, earning the #2 brands spot.

The Uruguayan new car market edges down 1.2% year-on-year in April to 3.845 registrations, leading to a YTD tally down 6% to 15.497 units. Volkswagen jumps up five spots on March but only 2% year-on-year to snap the brands pole position for the second time this year after January and the 7th time in the past 12 months. The German carmaker however ranks at a low #4 so far in 2018 with the YTD leader still Renault, up another 53% in April to #2 overall. Chevrolet (-15%) disappoints on the third step of the podium whereas Suzuki stuns with a 85% year-on-year gain at #4. Just below, Fiat (-41%), Nissan (-22%) and Hyundai (-30%) all post steep declines. Honda (+143%), Kia (+133%), Audi (+113%), Mercedes (+81%), Jeep (+67%), JAC (+62%), Toyota (+44%) and Lifan (+43%) sign some of the largest gains in market but Chinese carmakers as a whole are down again at -31% to 7.4% share in April and -26% to 8.4% so far this year.
