Romania February 2018: VW (+31%) and Opel (+18%) shine in market up 5.7%

New car sales in Romania are up 5.7% year-on-year in February to 8.777 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 33.6% to 20.521 sales. Homegrown leader Dacia follows the market at +5% but posts a 25% share well below its January level, with a YTD share at 28.3%. Volkswagen (+31%), Skoda (+8%) and Ford (+16%) replicate the FY17 and January Top 4 while Opel (+18%) overtakes Renault (-0.3%) for 5th place. Smart (+2000%), Alfa Romeo (+250%), Fiat (+44%), Peugeot (+40%) and Nissan (+23%) also impress with spectacular gains. Model-wise, the Dacia Logan manages a 162nd consecutive month in pole position, frankly beating the market at +28% above the Dacia Duster (-15%), Skoda Octavia (-12%) and VW Golf impressive once again at +94%. The VW Jetta (+103%), Dacia Sandero (+37%) and Ford Focus (+30%) also shine inside the Top 10 while just outside, the Ford Kuga (+78%), Opel Corsa (+60%), Opel Mokka (+42%), Nissan Qashqai (+37%) and Kia Cee’d (+34%) lodge robust gains. The Skoda Kodiaq leads all recent launches (<12 months) at #29 ahead of the Opel Crossland X (#36) and Suzuki Ignis (#47).
