Costa Rica Full Year 2017: Hyundai Accent edges past Honda Civic to #1

The new generation should keep the Hyundai Accent at #1 in Costa Rica in 2018.

According to OICA, the Costa Rican new passenger car market is down 9.9% year-on-year in 2017 to 43.518 registrations. We have access to the Top 10 brands and models of passenger cars (pickups excluded) for the first 10 months of the year. Toyota leads the way in the brands ranking with over 5.000 sales ahead of Hyundai above 3.600 and Nissan just under 2.800. All other manufacturers sell less than 2.000 units in Costa Rica over the period, including Honda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Kia and Mazda. Chevrolet and BMW are the only non-Asian marques in the Top 10. Model-wise, the Hyundai Accent snaps the pole position but only has a 9-unit advantage over the #2, the Honda Civic, while the Toyota Yaris is 75 sales below. The Toyota Corolla is the only other nameplate to amount to over 1.000 sales over the period. Notice also the Mitsubishi Montero, Hyundai Santa Fe and Nissan Pathfinder in the Top 10.
