Northern Ireland (UK) Full Year 2017: VW Golf #1 for first time in 6 years

Our partnership with SMMT enables us to share with you today December and Full Year 2017 data for Northern Ireland. Keep in mind this is a zoom in for each UK nation, these figures will be included in the upcoming December and Full Year 2017 UK Reports. New car sales in Northern Ireland are down 5.2% this year to 54.356 units, representing 2.1% of the total UK market, the same rate as in 2016. 2017 is a milestone year for the Northern Irish models ranking: for the first time since 2011, the VW Golf (+5%) is the best-selling vehicle in the nation, putting an end to five consecutive years of Ford Fiesta domination and topping the monthly ranking 7 times. In fact, the Fiesta (-18%) drops to #3, also overtaken by the Hyundai Tucson (-4%). Both nameplates topped the monthly charts twice. Ford manages to places three nameplates in the 2017 Top 5 with the Focus at #4 and Kuga at #5, both up 6%. The Kia Sportage (-3%), Nissan Qashqai (-13%) and VW Polo (-22%) all drop in the ranking, while the Vauxhall Corsa and Skoda Fabia both break into the annual Top 10. Finally, notice the Citroen C3 surprise leader in December.
