New car sales in Sweden gain 2.1% year-on-year in November to hit a new record for the month at 32.484 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally up 2.8% to an all-time high 344.435 units after eleven months. This month marks the 45th year-on-year gain in the past 48 months – or four years. The Top 2 most popular carmakers go agains the grain though with Volvo down 5% to 19.4% share and Volkswagen down 4% to 15.8%. Kia manages to bypass Toyota to leap to the third step of the podium thanks to deliveries up 22% to 6.8% share, while Renault (+42%), Peugeot (+28%) and Mercedes (+25%) sign the largest year-on-year gains in the Top 10. Further down, Dacia (+17%), Honda (+19%), Lexus (+19%), Jaguar (+24%), Tesla (+40%), Mini (+48%) and Alfa Romeo (+164%) make themselves noticed.

The Kia Cee’d is mostly sold as station wagon in Sweden.

The Volvo S/V90 is the best-selling nameplate at home for the first time since last June with sales up 183% year-on-year (as the model was still gearing up in late 2016) to 6.5% share vs. 5.8% year-to-date. As stock of the previous generation dries up, the Volvo XC60 drops heavily at -38% to #5 this month after topping the Swedish sales charts for six of the past seven months. Its advantage in the 2017 ranking (2.643 sales) seems unsurmountable though, and Volvo has pulled a rare trick this year by managing to pump up sales of the outgoing model by keeping it in production for a further six month and selling top-end variants at discounted prices.

The VW Arteon has found its audience in Sweden.

The VW Golf holds onto the 2nd spot in November despite sales down 14%, ahead of the Volvo S/V60 (-28%) and VW Passat (+5%). Excellent performers near the top include the VW Tiguan (+56%), Kia Cee’d (+53%), Renault Clio (+67%), Megane (+130%) and Peugeot 3008 (+111%). The Kia Niro manages a third consecutive month among Sweden’s Top 20 nameplates (#19) and the Skoda Kodiaq (#29) leads recent launches above the Kia Stonic (#59), VW Arteon (#68) and Citroen C3 Aircross (#90), new for November.
