As is the tradition in Ireland, the market slows down to an almost standstill, awaiting the new 2018 license plates. October sales are down a harsh 13.4% to 1.943 units, leading to a year-to-date volume down 10.2% to 130.522. In the brands ranking, the leaders go against the grain and post year-on-year increases: Volkswagen is up 4% to 14.7% share, well above its 10.5% YTD level, Skoda is up 2% to 8.7% vs. 6.9% so far this year but the most impressive performance comes from Kia soaring 84% to 8.7% vs. 5.4% in 2017 YTD. Audi on the other hand plunges 47%, followed by Ford, Toyota (both at -16%) and Nissan (-25%), Peugeot (+69%), Volvo (+21%), Seat (+92%) and Honda (+26%) also shine. Particularly small volumes allow for some striking moves in the models ranking: below the VW Golf (+20%) and Skoda Octavia (-19%) the Kia Stonic signs its very first podium anywhere in the world at #3 even though 58 sales were enough to achieve this feat. The Ford Mondeo is up 59% year-on-year and 10 spots on last month to #4, the Kia Sportage is up 95%, the VW Polo up 330% and Peugeot 3008 up 775%, all inside the Top 10.
