Switzerland September 2017: Skoda Kodiaq in Top 10

The Swiss new car market is down 6.2% year-on-year in September to 24.520 registrations, pulling the year-to-date total back in negative at -0.3% to 231.483 units. Volkswagen continues to struggle at -17% but posts a market share superior to its YTD level at 11.5%. Mercedes (-0.3%) resists in 2nd place above BMW (-11%), Skoda (-4%) and Audi (+7%), replicating the YTD Top 5. Opel (+6%) is the only other carmaker in the Top 10 to lodge a positive result while Ford registers a double-digit drop at -11%. Outside the Top 10, Nissan (+22%), Suzuki (+29%), Jeep (+45%), Aston Martin (+57%) and Alfa Romeo (+82%) are among the best performers.

Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia ends four consecutive months of VW Golf reign and cements its YTD leadership despite dropping 18% year-on-year to 3.3% share this month. The Golf (+2%) follows at 3% while the VW Tiguan rounds up the podium like YTD but drops a harsh 29% on September 2016. The Mercedes GLC shows up a stunning 4th place for the 2nd month running thanks to deliveries up 35% but is stuck at #7 YTD. Below the VW Polo (-24%) and Fiat 500 (+2%), the Skoda Kodiaq jumps from #30 in July and #11 in August to #7 this month, signing its very first Swiss Top 10 performance. Notice also the Aud Q5 up 42% to a brilliant 10th place, the BMW X1 up 52% to #12, the Seat Leon up 16% to #16 and the Mercedes E-Class up 222% to #31. Among other recent launches, the Suzuki Ignis is up 29 spots on August to #27 and the Audi Q2 is up four to #33.
