Final data for Europe is now available, showing August sales up 4.8% year-on-year to 892.893 units, leading to a year-to-date total up 4% or 403.000 sales to 10.470.593. Firstly, the three main events described in our previous August European sales post remain: Mercedes ranks #2 brand, the Skoda Octavia jumps on the European podium for the first time at #3 and the Dacia Sandero hits a record-breaking 5th place. In fact, the entire Top 40 brands is confirmed, with only minor changes at the tail end of the ranking: MG passing Chevrolet to #41 and Dodge passing Cadillac to #49. Chinese Geely (-11.1%) and DR Motor (+46.2%) have reverse fortunes but remains below 25 sales each across the entire continent.

In the models ranking, the entire Top 20 is confirmed, with only a few changes on the preliminary Top 50 we published last week. The Ford Kuga is up to #22, passing the Mercedes GLC which still posts a record-breaking #23 spot, the Peugeot 3008 passes the Ford Focus to #25, the Mercedes A-Class passes the Peugeot 308 to #29 and the Ford Fiesta passes the Peugeot 2008 to #32. Great performers in the Top 100 include the Nissan X-Trail (+51.1%), Mercedes GLA (+26.6%), Nissan Micra (+73.9%), Dacia Logan (+36.3%), Seat Ateca (+385.4%) and Peugeot 5008 (+202.1%).

The Toyota C-HR leads all recent launches (<12 months) at #41, followed by the Audi Q2 at #49, the Skoda Kodiaq up 31 spots to #57, the Opel Crossland X up 14 to #85, the Suzuki Ignis up 15 ranks to break into the European Top 100 for the first time at #97, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio at #168 and the Range Rover Velar at #185. Finally, even though they haven’t appeared in any local sales charts in August, this month we welcome the Citroen C3 Aircross at #290 and the DS 7 at #311.
