Belgium August 2017: BMW X1 shoots up to 2nd place
The BMW X1 is the 2nd best-selling vehicle in Belgium in August.

New car sales in Belgium drop a harsh 8% year-on-year in August to 35.517 registrations, yet the year-to-date total remains in positive territory at 394.446 units, up 3% on the same period a year ago. Brand leader Volkswagen tumbles down 17% and only remains #1 thanks to a mere 18 units, with BMW snapping on its heels and holding the same 8.9% market share. Mercedes (+13%) is also threatening in third place and 8.6% share. Renault (-27%) and Peugeot (+12%) round up the Top 5 with Opel (-13%), Ford (-16%) and Hyundai (-29%) in difficulty inside the Top 10. Below, notice Nissan up 16%, Subaru up 19%, Jeep up 21%, Seat up 37% and Alfa Romeo up 46% but Citroen down 20%, Lexus down 21%, Jaguar down 26%, Honda down 32%, Mitsubishi down 48%, Mini down 55% and DS down 63%.
The Top 10 models for the January-August period are now available and once again there are a few changes in the YTD ranking. The VW Golf cements its pole position thanks to a 2.5% share in August, now leading over the Renault Clio (1.6% in August) by 369 sales. The Hyundai Tucson and Opel Corsa both outsell the Clio in August but remain below YTD, while the BMW X1 shoots up to 2nd place overall this month with 2.3% share, snapping the 5th spot year-to-date off the VW Polo. The Peugeot 2008 is getting closer to the Citroen C3 at #7 and the Peugeot 208 reappears in the YTD Top 10 at #10 despite sales down 2% year-on-year.
