Thanks to SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation in April. Keep in mind this is only a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in the UK update. After an all-time record month in March, April is down 20% overall in the UK. Both England (-19.3%) and Scotland (-17.5%) do slightly better than the market but Northern Ireland (-29.1%) and Wales (-30.6%) fare markedly worse and are now down year-to-date at -5.1% and -5.5% respectively vs. +1.6% for England and +1% for Scotland.
In England – where most UK fleet sales are registered – the Ford Fiesta holds onto the pole position by the skin of its teeth (213 units exactly) above the Nissan Qashqai while the Mercedes C-Class (#3), A Class (#4) also shine and the Audi A3 (#7), BMW 1 Series (#9) and 3 Series (#10) do better than in the overall UK ranking. In Northern Ireland, despite a 31% drop the Hyundai Tucson takes the lead of the sales charts while traditional #1 the Ford Fiesta is downy to a paltry #7. The Ford Focus (-13%) and Nissan Qashqai (+9%) complete the podium, with the Peugeot 108 making its first ever appearance inside the Northern Irish Top 10 at #8 and the Renault Kadjar strong at #10.
In Scotland, Vauxhall monopolises the podium with the Corsa and Astra in the lead, joined on the podium by the Mokka X which delivers its best Scottish ranking so far, beating the #7 reached last October. In Wales, the podium is 100% Ford with the Fiesta (-44%), Focus (-23%) and Kuga (-15%) in the lead. The Mercedes A-Class post its first Top 10 ranking in the time we’ve followed Wales at #7.
