The Austrian new car market is down 2.9% year-on-year in April to 30.201 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally up 8.3% to 118.694. Market leader Volkswagen fares slightly worse than the market at -4% but remains ultra-dominant at 17.2% share, the same figure as year-to-date. It is followed this month by three improving brands: Skoda (+5%), Renault (+3%) and Ford (+5%) all post market shares above their year-to-date levels at 7.6%, 6.5% and 6.3% respectively. The rest of the Top 10 is entirely in negative territory with Opel (-11%) and Audi (-25%) hit the hardest. Further down, notice Toyota (+22%), Dacia (+23%), Land Rover (+26%), Suzuki (+37%) and Alfa Romeo (+94%) all posting impressive gains.
In the models ranking, Volkswagen monopolises the podium like it does year-to-date but this month the Golf (-25%) is followed by the Polo (+58%) with the Tiguan (+8%) taking third position instead of #2 year-to-date. The traditional two Skodas follow: the Octavia at -9% and the Fabia at +29%. Within the Top 10, the VW Bus (+10%), BMW X1 (+18%), Ford Fiesta (+22%) and most impressively the Renault Megane (+154%) make themselves noticed. Beyond, the Renault Kadjar is up 74% to #13 vs. #39 year-to-date, the Ford Kuga is up 93% to #16 and the Dacia Sandero up 50% to #19. Among recent launches, the Fiat Tipo ranks 26th, the Seat Ateca 27th and the Toyota C-HR 40th while the Alfa Romeo Stelvio breaks into the Top 100 at #94.
