According to our Central European data partner CE Auto and local publication Vrelegume.rs, the Serbian new car market is up a stunning 20% year-on-year in 2016 to 27.194 registrations. Fiat trails the market with a 18% gain but this is enough to take the brands lead with 15.9% share and pass last year’s leader Skoda up just 0.3% to 13.8% of the market. Volkswagen (+14%) rounds up the podium like a year ago while Renault is up three spots and 65% to #4. Opel (+29%), Dacia (+22%) and most strikingly Hyundai (+201%) also outpace the market inside the Top 10. Further down, notice Porsche (+37%), Volvo (+43%), Alfa Romeo (+46%), Peugeot (+66%) and Seat (+392%) also posting spectacular gains.
Model-wise, the Fiat 500L – assembled locally in the Kragujevac Fiat factory – holds onto the pole position for the second year running and the third time overall (add 2013) despite seeing its sales drop 6% to 1.709. The Skoda Octavia gains 8% and one spot to climb to 2nd place overall, while the Opel Astra posts a new generation-boosted 55% surge to land on the third step of the podium vs. #6 in 2015. Both nameplates knock the Skoda Fabia (-31%) down two spots to #4. The Dacia Sandero soars 26% but is down to #5, with the Skoda Superb at a very satisfying +30%. The Hyundai i30, Renault Clio and Hyundai Tucson all break into the Serbian Top 10 for 2016. Finally, notice the Fiat Tipo sliding into the monthly Top 10 twice: in May (#10) and December (#9), making Serbia the third country in the world where it has done so so far alongside Italy and Turkey where it is sold as the Egea.
