The Mauritius new car market gains a robust 9% year-on-year in 2016 to 9.185 registrations, reversing a negative trend started last year. Big event atop the brands ranking: thanks to deliveries growing faster than the market at +14%, Nissan topples perennial leader Toyota (-13%) to reach 17.6% market share vs. 15.2%. Hyundai (+7%) and Kia (-1%) follow and remain unchanged vs. 2015. BMW stays 5th despite sales down 2%, illustrating the particularly posh tastes of Mauritius car buyers: Mercedes surges 69% to rank 9th, Audi is up 15% to #11, Jaguar up 81% to #19 and just two units below Volkswagen (!) and Porsche is up 65% to #21. Other great performers this year in Mauritius include Renault soaring 63% to #6 overall thanks to the local launch of the Kwid, Mitsubishi exactly doubling its sales year-on-year (+100%), Perodua up 87% and Proton up 560%. Finally, note the Datsun GO was launched in the country in October but sales seem to have been reported under the Nissan brand, making it impossible to gage its success.

The Kwid helps Renault up 63% in Mauritius in 2016.
