New car sales in Austria gain 10% year-on-year in January to 26.352 registrations, and market leader Volkswagen more than doubles this growth rate at +25% to a standout 19.3% market share vs. 17.2% over the Full Year 2016. Skoda (-14%), Opel (-7%) and Renault (-9%) follow but all lose ground, whereas Seat surges 56% to #5, Hyundai soars 85% to #7 and Fiat is up 18% to #10. Further down, Nissan (+31%), Kia (+35%), Suzuki (+38%), Citroen (+43%), Toyota (+54%) and Smart (+199%) post the largest gains inside the Top 20, with Alfa Romeo (+27%), Maserati (+100%) and Jaguar (+147%) also lodging spectacular gains. Model-wise, the VW Golf leaps up 26% to 5.9% share vs. 4,8% over FY2016, the VW Tiguan is up 3-fold on January 2016 to #2 thanks to the new generation, knocking down the Skoda Octavia and VW Polo to #3 and #4 respectivelyt, The rest of the Top 10 post double-digit gains, led by the VW Bus (+51%), Seat Leon (+43%) and Opel Astra (#8). The Seat Ateca breaks into the Austrian Top 10 for the very first time at #10 thanks to 408 sales. Notice also the Hyundai i30 up 668% the i20 up 118%, Citroen C4 Picasso up 102%, Peugeot 3008 up 210%, the Toyota C-HR up to #54 and the Suzuki Ignis up to #64.
