The Hungarian new car market marks a pause in October at -3% to 7.953 registrations, however 1.800 government sales in October 2015 meant a higher-than-normal base and the galloping growth rates should return in November according to our local correspondent. This is the first time since August 2015 that the Hungarian market does not post double-digit year-on-year gains and the first decline since March 2013 according to BSCB records. Year-to-date, Hungary sales are up 22% to 77.394 units. Local producer Suzuki remains the most popular brand in the country with 12% share, however Ford is getting dangerously close this month at 11.7%, distancing Volkswagen (9.1%), Opel (8.9%) and Skoda (8.5%). Dacia is back inside the Top 10 at #7, Hyundai stays #8 and Fiat jumps to #9. Despite sales down 32% year-on-year, the Suzuki Vitara is once again the best-selling nameplate, followed this time by the Skoda Octavia (+30%) and Dacia Duster surging 118% to #3 – the nameplate’s 2nd podium in five months. The Hyundai Tucson leaps up to #6, the new generation Opel Astra ranks 7th and the Opel Mokka is up 76% to #10.
