Vietnam September 2016: Kia Morning leads, Ford Ecosport shines

The Vietnamese new vehicle market is up by another 24% year-on-year in September to 26,551 registrations, lifting the year-to-date tally up 31% to 213.958 units. Thaco-Kia remains the most popular manufacturer, beating the market at +34% to 7.204 sales and 27.1% followed by Toyota at 19.2% (+9%). Mazda surges 48% to third place with 10.7% of the Vietnamese market and Ford is up 41% to a round 10% share. Suzuki (+44%), Hyundai (+182%), Mitsubishi (+60%) and Lexus (+63%) also outpace the record-breaking market. The Kia Morning is the best-selling vehicle in the country for the second month in a row thanks to sales up a whopping 91% year-on-year to 1.641, but that’s only 27 units above the Toyota Vios (+12%), still year-to-date leader. The Toyota Fortuner (+46%) and Mazda3 (+104%) overtake the Ford Ranger (+37%) with the Mazda CX-5 (+95%), Toyota Corolla (+53%) and Ford Ecosport (+64%) – reaching its best-ever ranking at #8 – all posting significant year-on-year gains.
