Ireland August 2016: VW & Golf lead, Hyundai and Seat shine

Irish new car sales are up by a solid 14% year-on-year in August to 7.310 registrations, in line with its YTD growth at +19% to 138.534 units. Market leader over the Full Year 2015, Volkswagen reclaims the brands pole position in August with 968 sales and 13.2% above Toyota at 788 and 10.8% and Hyundai at 613 and 8.4% (+104%!). However this isn’t enough to get back to #1 in 2016: this spot is still held by Hyundai at 15.072 sales (+37%) above Toyota at 14.740 (+19%), Volkswagen at 14.375 (+1%) and Ford 13.947 (+24%). BMW (+34%), Volvo (+38%), Dacia (+39%), Kia (+64%), Mercedes (+67%), Land Rover (+89%), Fiat (+96%), Seat (+167%) and Jaguar (+313%) all take off but Nissan (-35%) and Opel (-36%) plunge. In the models ranking, the VW Golf snaps the top spot for only the 2nd time this year at 312 sales and 4.3% share, only 3 units above the star of 2016, the Hyundai Tucson. The Skoda Octavia and Toyota Yaris follow, with the VW Passat up 10 spots on July to #5, the VW Tiguan up 21 to #6 and the BMW 5 Series up 40 to #7. Notice also the Seat Toledo up 107 ranks on last month to #16 with 124 sales vs. 146 over the previous 7 months.
