Finland August 2016: Skoda Octavia and Opel Astra in command

The Skoda Octavia and Opel Astra dominate the Finnish sales charts.

The Finnish new car market is up 9% year-on-year in August to 9.105 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total up 12% to 82.030 units. Market leader Volkswagen outpaces the market at +14% to 1.058 sales and 11.6%, keeping at bay Toyota at 11.1%, down 4% year-on-year. Ford (+25%) and Skoda (+13%) follow, while at #5 Opel (+40%) is now hanging with the “big boys” – the Top 4, traditionally well ahead of the competition – with 8% vs. 8.9% for Skoda. Hyundai (+31%), Seat (+37%), Mercedes (+44%), Peugeot (+45%), Subaru (+45%), Suzuki (+50%), Honda (+97%) and Jaguar (+750%) shine but Citroen (-24%), Renault (-28%) and Mitsubishi (-35%) struggle. Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia holds onto the top spot despite sales down 1% to 460, over one percentage point of market share ahead of the Opel Astra, tripling its sales year-on-year to 358. The Ford Focus (+41%), Volvo V60 (+61%), Seat Leon (+64%), VW Polo (+76%), Audi A4 (+91%) and Skoda Superb (+609%) post the largest gains inside the Top 30 while the Honda HR-V breaks into the Top 20 for the first time.
