After a 3% dip in April, the Chilean new car market is back into frankly positive territory this month at +13% to 24.002 units, lifting the year-to-date tally up 8% to 116.511 units. If Kia takes the lead in May with 2.362 sales and 9.8% share (+5%), the star of the month is sister brand Hyundai up a flamboyant 38% on its May 2015 score to hit 2.336 deliveries and 9.7% share, enabling it to overtake perennial leader Chevrolet to now rank #1 in the year-to-date ranking at 11.008 sales (+16%) vs. 10.875 for Kia (-4%) and 10.870 (-29%) for Chevrolet, under attack in most of Latin America. As far as BSCB is aware, Hyundai never ranked #1 in Chile in a Full Year and will be able to count on a new SUV offer with the Creta and new Tucson just launching in the country now. Other great performers in Chile this month include Toyota (+41%), JAC (+48%), Renault (+53%), Fiat (+60%), Mahindra (+68%), Peugeot (+77%) and Citroen (+79%). The Great Wall Group (including the Haval brand) leads Chinese manufacturers at #19 ahead of Chery (#21) and Dongfeng (#22) but all-in-all these are losing ground at -7% to 7.2% share vs. 8.8% a year ago.
