The Bulgarian new car market is in great shape at +15% in February to an estimated 2.177 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total to 4.073 units, up 7% on the same period in 2015. Firstly the usual caveat to Bulgarian data which are significantly skewed by re-exports to other European Union countries. A large portion of new deliveries never makes it to local roads – as much as 30% – thanks to Bulgaria displaying some of the lowest car prices in the EU. See here for more on this phenomenon. Despite sales down 3% on February 2015, Dacia remains the most popular manufacturer in the country with 12.2% share, ahead of parent brand Renault back up 70% to #2 and Toyota up 39% to #3. Skoda drops two spots to #4 and Volkswagen crumbles down 24% to #5. Nissan (+101%), Mazda (+110%) and Chinese carmaker and local assembler Great Wall (+130%) impress this month. Model-wise, the Dacia Dokker remains solidly installed in pole position with 6% share above the Skoda Octavia and Renault Captur, with the Nissan Qashqai shooting back up 12 spots on January to #4 and the Toyota Hilux up 15 to #5.
