Lifted by a robust December score (+12%), the Finnish new car market ends 2015 on a positive note with sales up 2% on a year ago to 107.769 registrations. Both Volkswagen (-1%) and Toyota (-4%) retain the Top two spots but lose ground. Skoda (+2%) follows the market in third position and 9.2% share, with Ford (+15%), Nissan (+13%) and Opel (+20%) the most dynamic carmakers in the Top 10. Subaru (+19%), Hyundai (+23%), Fiat (+25%), Land Rover (+37%) and Renault (+63%) post the largest year-on-year gains among mass manufacturers. Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia is the most popular nameplate in Finland for the second year running and the third time ever after 2011 despite sales down 1% to 5.832 and 5.4% share.

The Nissan Qashqai (+3%) is up one spot to #2 and 4% share, just as the VW Golf is freefalling down 27% to 3.852 units and 3.6% in third position, partly due to cannibalisation from the Sportsvan variant (up 58% to #25) but not to dieselgate – occurring too late in the year to have a real impact. On the other hand the VW Passat benefits fully from the landing of the new model with sales up an outstanding 61% on 2014 to 3.543 at #4. The Toyota Auris is up 21% at #6, the Ford Mondeo up 50% to #12, the Opel Corsa up 248% to #16, the Renault Clio up 71% to #19 (#2 in December!) and the Skoda Fabia up 255% to #22.
