Venezuela July 2015: Chevrolet, Toyota and Mitsubishi won’t leave

The Venezuelan new car market has now been evolving at a standstill for almost two years, and don’t let the one digit drop in July fool you: sales may be down just 9% on July 2014 at 1.446 units but they are down 83% on July 2013 which was itself down 21% on July 2012. In this context and with the impossibility to repatriate currency out of the country, only a handful of manufacturers maintain an activity in Venezuela: namely Chevrolet (597 sales), Toyota (425) and Mitsubishi (259). Model-wise, only five nameplates sell more than 60 units in Venezuela this month: one in every 3 new vehicles sold in the country is a Chevrolet Silverado – the previous generation is the only one available in Venezuela – with 492 units sold and cementing its year-to-date leadership at 1.739 deliveries at 14%. The Mitsubishi Canter follows at 178 sales, ahead of the Toyota Fortuner (159), Corolla (156) and Hilux (109).
