Second consecutive month of double-digit year-on-year gains for the Swiss new car market at +10% in July to 30.228 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total to 192.026 units, up 8% on 2014. Below Volkswagen up 6% to a gigantic 14.2% share, Audi (+22%) and Mercedes (+53%) both gain one spot on June to overtake BMW (+29%) and rank #2 and #3 respectively. Skoda remains 5th above Renault (+56%) while Mazda (+56%), Volvo (+72%), Land Rover (+46%), Smart (+132%) and Jaguar (+166%) all take off. Both the VW Golf at #1 with 5.7% share and the VW Polo at #3 with 3% share are brilliantly one percentage point above their year-to-date average, they sandwich the Skoda Octavia at #2. The Audi A3 at #4 and Seat Leon at #5 make the Swiss July Top 5 identical to the year-to-date ranking and 100% Volkswagen Group, with the Skoda Fabia (#7) and VW Passat (#8) also shining in the Top 10.
The Mercedes GLA is among Switzerland’s 10 best-sellers for the 5th time already.
There are two premium heroes this month in Switzerland: the BMW 2 Series improves on an already fantastic June score (#9), gaining a further 3 spots to rank 6th with a stunning 469 sales. This performance has almost everything to do with the success of the Active Tourer – now joined by the Gran Tourer – as the 2 Series Coupe holds a minute portion of the monthly sales figure. This #6 ranking is a world record so far for the 2 Series. To give perspective, the next best-selling BMWs in Switzerland are the 1 Series (#25), 3 Series (#32) and 4 Series (#33). The most popular Mercedes for its part is the GLA crossover, breaking into the Swiss Top 10 for the 5th time already in its 17 month-career at #9 and 423 deliveries. It is followed by the C-Class (#11) and A-Class (#14).
The Volvo XC90 is just about to enter the Swiss Top 50.
Outside the Top 10, notice the Audi Q5 up 30 spots on June to #12, the Volvo XC60 up 17 to #18, Skoda Yeti up 43 to #20, Mazda2 up 30 to #30, the Tesla Model S remaining inside the Top 50 at #46, the Mazda CX-3 breaking into it for the first time at #49 (+30), the Volvo XC90 boosted up 38 ranks to #55 by the new model, the Renault Kadjar up 28 spots to #69, the Renault Espace up 21 to #78 and the Opel Karl up 159 to #90. We welcome the Mercedes GLE directly inside the Swiss Top 100 for its first month of sales in the country (#100), the VW T6 (new generation Transporter) at #135, the Hyundai Tucson at #178, Subaru Levorg at #262 and the Ferrari 488 GTB at #345 with the first unit sold in Switzerland.
Switzerland is among the first European countries to get the Subaru Levorg.
