A positive touch for Finnish new car sales in July: up a robust 9% year-on-year to 8.607 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 65.047 units, now down just 2% on 2014. Volkswagen keeps the lead of the brands ranking by far at 13.8% share above Toyota (9.8%) while Skoda posts a 13% gain to 9.4% share in third place. Kia (+35%), Nissan (+22%), Opel (+15%), BMW (+11%) and Hyundai (+52%) also shine but Renault is the most impressive at a whopping +144%. In the models ranking 11 of the 15 best-sellers frankly outpace the market with year-on-year gains of over 20%, shedding light on an intense consolidation of the market around trusted nameplates. If the Skoda Octavia (+1%), back to pole position, and the VW Golf (-1%) are stable, the Nissan Qashqai (+21%), VW Passat (+65%), Toyota Yaris (+26%), Ford Fiesta (+42%), Kia Rio (+59%), Toyota Avensis (+99%), Volvo V40 (+62%), Ford Mondeo (+80%) and Kia Cee’d (+46%) all shoot up. None more so than the Opel Corsa (+419%) and Skoda Fabia (+612%) both boosted by their new generation.
