Portugal May 2015: Renault Captur shoots up to 2nd place

The Portuguese new car market is up a very dynamic 33% year-on-year to 18.345 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 79.589 units, also up 33% on 2014. Renault had a bumper month, placing the Clio in pole position with 6% share and the Captur at a record 2nd place with 3.9%, and adding up to 13.5% (+64%) vs. 11.8% (+38%) year-to-date. Volkswagen improves slightly slower than the market at +28% to 10% share in May, followed by Peugeot (+52%), Mercedes (+29%), BMW (+14%), Nissan up a gargantuan 79% and Ford up an equally impressive 78%. Notice also Skoda up 49%, Volvo up 59%, Hyundai up 74% and Smart up 159%.

Over in the models ranking, below the two Renaults the VW Golf is regular on the podium with another 712 sales and 3.9% this month, still #2 year-to-date like in 2014, while the VW Polo is equally solid in 4th place with 3.7%. The Peugeot 308 is up 4 spots on April to #5, the Ford Focus up 8 to #6, the Nissan Pulsar up 35 to #21 – its best ranking so far in Portugal – and the Skoda Fabia is up 8 to #31. Further down, the Mercedes CLA is up 11 ranks to #29, the Mazda CX-3 lands directly at #88, the Volvo XC90 reappears at #114 thanks to the new generation and the Jaguar XE makes its entrance in the Portuguese charts at #164.
