Portugal February 2015: Renault Clio reclaims pole position
The Clio lifts Renault up to 12.5% share this month in Portugal.

The Portuguese new car market is catching up on lost time and continues to lodge extravagant growth rates: +36% year-on-year in February to 14,302 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total up 32% to 26,141 units. After dropping to #5 in January, Renault reclaims the pole position it held over the FY2014 with sales up 75% on a year ago to 1,781 deliveries and 12.5% share. This performance earns it the 2015 year-to-date top spot as well with 10.7% share vs. 10% for Peugeot, kicked down to #2 in February at 9.9% despite sales up 42%. Volkswagen (+45%), BMW (+24%) and Mercedes (+38%) follow, with Dacia (+49%), Opel (+55%), Citroen (+58%), Smart (+58%), Mini (+67%) and Kia (+93%) all frankly outperforming the market inside the Top 20.
The Nissan Pulsar is up to a best-ever #22 in Portugal in February.
In the models ranking, the Renault Clio is back in charge both this month (6% share) and year-to-date (4.5%), with the VW Polo (3.9%) and Peugeot 208 (3.4%) far below while the January leader, the VW Golf, is down to #5 in February and #3 year-to-date. Boosted by the new generation, the Opel Corsa is up 11 spots on January to #4, the Nissan Qashqai is up 5 to #6, the Fiat 500 up 10 to #16 and the BMW 2 Series breaks into the Portuguese Top 30 for the first time thanks to the Active Tourer variant. Among recent launches, the Nissan Pulsar is up a spectacular 64 ranks on January to #22, the Smart Forfour is up one to #47, the Fiat 500X up 95 to #52 and the Land Rover Discovery Sport lands at #168 with 3 units sold.
