New car sales in Austria are down 2% year-on-year in January to 23,427 registrations, but still dominated head-and-shoulders by the Volkswagen Group: the Volkswagen brand holds 16.9% of the market and is followed by Skoda at 8.2% (+14%) while Audi ranks 5th with 5.7% share and Seat #7 at 5.4% (+25%). Opel is back up from #7 in December to #3 and Renault up from #11 to #4, and both BMW (+27%) and Mercedes (+4%) hold onto their Top 10 spot. Porsche (+49%), Mini (+94%), Smart (+112%) and Jeep (+132%) take off.
The VW Passat is at its highest in Austria in over two years.
Logically, the VW Golf remains the best-seller in the country with 5.5% market share while the Renault Mégane/Scénic (sales still counted together here) is back up to 2nd place at 3.5% ahead of the Skoda Octavia (2.8%), Fabia (2.7%) and VW Polo (2.5%). Thanks to the new model, the Opel Corsa jumps up from outside the Top 20 in December directly to #6, its best ranking in Austria since last September. The VW Passat, also boosted by a new generation now in dealerships, is up to #8, its first time in the Austrian Top 10 since December 2012. Notice also the Audi Q3 lodging its 2nd ever Austrian Top 10 ranking at #9, the only other time being back in April 2013 (#8).
