Austria November 2014: Hyundai i20 confirms second spot

New car sales in Austria are down a tough 7% year-on-year in November to 21,619 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 285,927 sales, down 4% on 2013. Thanks to sales up 2% YOY, Volkswagen lifts its Austrian market share to a very impressive 20.3%, a full 2.5 percentage points above its YTD level of 17.8%. Opel surges 26% to reclaims the 2nd spot it holds year-to-date thanks to an exceptional performance of the Opel Mokka up to #6 this month. All other Top 8 brands fall heavily YOY: Ford (-20%), Skoda (-25%), Audi (-14%), Hyundai (-25%), BMW (-13%) and Seat (-9%).
Model-wise, below the untouchable VW Golf (8.1% market share including the Sportsvan variant), the Hyundai i20 manages to lodge a second consecutive month in 2nd place thanks to 800 sales and 3.7% share: evidently the new model is striking a chord with Austrian consumers. Notice also the VW Sharan up to #8, the VW Bus up to #9, VW Passat up to #13 and the Smart Fortwo making a remarkable reappearance whitin Austria’s Top 20 best-sellers at #16 with 303 sales and 1.4% share.
