Argentina June 2014: Fiat Palio holds onto #1 in market down 31%

The Argentinean new car market continues to crash and burn after a tax increase was implemented on January 1. In June it is down 31% year-on-year to 51,540 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 380,878 units, down 24% on 2013. The race for the title of most popular manufacturer in Argentina is very competitive with 5 brands above 12% share this month. Fiat takes the lead at 8,154 sales and 15.8% followed by Chevrolet (14.5%), Ford (14.3%) and Volkswagen (13.3%), remaining top dog year-to-date at 15.2% ahead of Renault (13.2%) and Fiat (12.9%).
The Fiat Palio is the most successful model in the country for the 2nd month running thanks to 2,896 sales and 5.6% share, now up to #7 year-to-date vs. #18 in 2013. The Chevrolet Classic, leader in 2013, remains #2 at 2,698 units and 5.2% and ranks 5th so far in 2014. The Toyota Hilux is up one spot on May to #3, staying #2 year-to-date, the Renault Clio Mio is back up 5 ranks to #4 while the Ford Ecosport is up 3 to #5, saving its third spot year-to-date. Notice also the Ford Focus III at #7, the Chevrolet Prisma at #17, Chevrolet Celta at #23 and the Fiat Nuevo Fiorino up to #51.
