The Canadian new car market continues to evolve at records heights: up 6% year-on-year in May to 195,571 registrations, simply the best May on record according to DesRosiers Automotive Reports. Ford leads the way once again despite a 1% year-on-year sales drop to 31,193 units, ahead of Toyota stable at 20,129 sales. Honda shines: up 2 spots on April and 12% year-on-year to third place at 16,507 units, as do Nissan up 29%, RAM up 17%, GMC up 20%, Mazda up 14%, Jeep up a huge 53% – very close to its performance in the US, Subaru up 23% and Buick up 48%.
The Honda Civic reclaims the passenger car crown in Canada this month.
The models ranking reflects this dynamism, with only 4 vehicles losing ground year-on-year in the Top 20: the Ford F-Series holding on to its pole position in spite of sales down 1%, the Hyundai Elantra (-10%), Honda CR-V (-6%) and Ford Focus (-25%). At the top, the RAM Pick-up remains #2 (+12%), the Honda Civic reclaims its traditional third spot (+18%) ahead of the Toyota Corolla (+11%) and Dodge Grand Caravan (+16%).
The Honda Fit is up 119% year-on-year in May.
