The Venezuelan new car market shockingly comes to a screeching halt in January: down a devastating 87% year-on-year to just 722 registrations. Only 9 carmakers manage to actually sell cars (vs. 20 in normal times), with traditional leader General Motors only selling 48 units and perennial #2 Ford only achieving two sales! In fact, only Mitsubishi and Toyota survive this massacre: the former with almost 40% share and 288 sales and the latter with 225 units and 31.2%. The Mitsubishi Lancer is the most ‘popular’ model this month with 186 sales and 25.8% share, followed by the Toyota Corolla at 106 units and 14.7% and the Toyota Fortuner at 92 sales and 12.7%. Hopefully the market will return to normal in February…
