Sweden January 2014: Volvo XC60 up to record 2nd place

Outstanding start of the year for the Swedish car market: up an explosive 19% year-on-year to 18,673 registrations, bringing this January’s tally back to its 2012 level. In the brand ranking, Volvo leads the way with 19.9% share ahead of Volkswagen at 16% while BMW is up to #3 with 7.2%, passing Audi (6.6%) and Toyota (6.5%), and Mercedes is up to #7 vs. #11 over the Full Year 2013. Model-wise, there are no surprises at #1: the Volvo V70 is the only model to sell more than 1,000 units this month at 1,203 and 6.4%.

But the big event is the record 2nd place of the Volvo XC60 thanks to 862 sales and 4.6% share, which are nevertheless not its volume nor share records – these were reached last month although the XC60 only ranked #4 then. The XC60’s previous best ranking was #4 which it reached for the first time exactly one year ago in January 2013. The S/V60 completes a podium 100% Volvo for the first time in… years. The BMW 3 Series is up 6 spots on December to land at a strong 7th place with 3% share vs. 2.2% over the Full Year 2013 and the VW Polo remains at a very high level at #8 and 2.9% vs. #18 and 1.3% in 2013.

Dacia Duster

Beyond the Top 10, the VW Tiguan is up 9 ranks to #15, the Audi A3 up 3 to #16, the Toyota RAV4 up a splendid 10 spots to #20, the Mazda3 is up to a flamboyant 27th spot vs. #105 in 2013 and the Ford Kuga up to #30 vs. #52. Finally, notice two Dacias literally smashing the personal best this month: the Dacia Duster up to #28 vs. #78 in 2013 and a PB of #39,  and the Dacia Sandero up to #35 vs. #82 in 2013 and a PB of #57… In fact Dacia is up to #17 brand and 1.8% share in January vs. #24 and 0.8% in 2013.
