Belarus Full Year 2013: VW Polo takes lead, 2 Renaults on podium

The Belorussian new car market is up a fantastic 40% year-on-year in 2013 to reach a new all-time record 28,810 registrations including Light Commercial Vehicles, beating its previous best of 25,300 in 2008 and after a low of 12,900 in 2010. Volkswagen is back to #1 brand in the country thanks to sales up 129% to 3,913 units and 13.6% share, ahead of Renault at 12.4% (+90%) and Lada, leader in 2012, down 8% to #3 and 9.4% share. Notice also UAZ up 118%, Hyundai up 157% and Peugeot up 463% to #10. The main long-term trend in the Belorussian new car market is the growing share of vehicles made in Russia: from 8.4% in 2011 to 21.2% in 2012 and 30% in 2013!

In the models ranking, we have a new leader in 2013: the VW Polo, up a magnificent 137% on 2012 to 2,029 sales and a very strong 7% market share. Renault manages to place two models inside the Belorussian podium in 2013: the Sandero is up 3 spots and 121% year-on-year to #2 at 1,434 units and 5% whereas the new generation hasn’t hit Belarus yet, and most impressively the Duster multiply its 2012 sales by five (!), up 10 ranks to land at a superb third place with 1,375 sales and 4.8% share. The Kia Rio (+135%), GAZ Gazelle and Hyundai Accent (+217%) follow while the Niva (#7) is the best-selling Lada in the country this month, passing the Priora down 63% from #1 in 2012 to #13 this year.

We have no less than 4 all-new models inside the Belorussian Top 21 this year: the Skoda Rapid leads the way at #9 and 650 sales, followed by the Lada Largus at #14 and 457 units while the Peugeot 408 lands at #21 with 342 sales but the most interesting arrival is without a doubt the Geely SC7, now assembled locally, at #19 with 350 units sold for a 1.2% market share, pushing Chinese manufacturer Geely inside the Top 20 most popular carmakers in the country at #18 with 407 sales and 1.5%, below Mitsubishi and Mazda but above Mercedes and Citroen…
