Malaysia November 2013: Market down 3%

Last month I mentioned that the Malaysian Automotive Association anticipated  that November sales could experience a boost because of a backlog of orders from October and the impact of the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show on from 15 to 24 November (where Perodua revealed the Buddyz concept above). Not so. New car sales in Malaysia are down 3% year-on-year this month to 52,252 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 595,399 units, up 5% on the same period in 2012 and still on track for a record Full Year 2013 predicted at 640,000 units by the same MAA. For this to happen, December sales would need to be 44,700 units, however the MAA notes “December is always a challenging month for new vehicle sales as buyers often prefer to wait till January to take delivery of their vehicle so it will have registration in the new year.”
