Over the years we have been witness to some of the greatest car appearances in film and TV history – from the Mini’s stunning performance in The Italian Job to the Lotus Esprit’s appearance in The Spy Who Loved Me. When it comes to choosing which are the best ones, though, things get tough. So tough, in fact, that most lists draw furious debate. So, we thought we’d jump on the opportunity to cause a stir with our 5 favourites. Enjoy!

1. Aston Martin DB5 – Goldfinger

First place on our list goes to the stunning Aston Martin DB5, which was made timeless thanks to its appearance in Goldfinger. Not only did 007’s car have lots of incredible gadgets, such as machine guns, a bulletproof shield and an ejector seat, but it raced against a beautiful white Ford Mustang in the Swiss Alps. Bristol Street Motors Vauxhall Carlisle thinks that this car is the best of all time, and we’d have to agree.

2. DeLorean DMC-12 – Back to the Future

The DeLorean DMC-12 is a strange machine – in the Back to the Future films, it could accelerate very quickly and jump time, but in real life, it was very slow – it only had 150 bhp in European spec and an even poorer 130 bhp in the US. That’s not very much at all. Thankfully, the car made it up for that gorgeous looks and of course, its unique abilities.

3. Ford Gran Torino – Starsky and Hutch

Probably the coolest TV show ever made, Starsky and Hutch was made all the cooler thanks to the stunning Ford Gran Torino in the 1975 TV series. So popular was the show, that Ford’s Gran Torino sales went through the roof after it was featured. The car was produced between 1968 and 1876 and today, like all of the cars on this list, it costs a lot of money.

4. Ford Lincoln Futura – Batman 1955

The original Batmobile! The Ford Lincoln Futura was made famous with its appearance in Batman in 1955. For the television series, a stock Lincoln Futura was heavily modified, with brand new metalwork, detailing, and a very unique paint job. The result was a car that was as menacing as it was beautiful – it was also devilishly quick. Today, the Batman franchise is more successful than ever.

5. Pontiac Firebird Trans Am – Knight Rider

Knight Rider is an awesome television show, but it was the car that made it – the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. This car was almost indestructible, with more technology than a space shuttle. The versions used in the series were modified third generation Trans Am’s. Today, they command a whopping price tag in good condition. The model used in the TV series had over 200 bhp.
