Thanks to Antonio from ANCAP Portugal has now become a monthly models ranking update on BCSB. In August, the Portuguese new car market continues to regain shape, up 13% year-on-year to 6,142 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 72,017 units, now up 6% on 2012. The top 3 best-sellers all lodge market share frankly above their year-to-date levels: the Renault Clio is up 57% to 6.5% share, the Peugeot 208 up 22% to 5.1% and the VW Golf up an impressive 64% to 4.9% at #3 vs. #6 and 2.9% year-to-date.
But the big event this month in Portugal is just below: BMW manages to place two models in the Top 8: the 3 Series is up 7 spots on July and 120% year-on-year to land at a fantastic 5th place with 163 sales and 2.7% while the BMW 5 Series is up 24 ranks on last month and 57% year-on-year to #8 at 138 units and 2.2%. Paradoxically, BMW’s best-seller in the country so far this year, the 1 Series at #8 year-to-date, is down to #13 in August…
It’s a great month for premium German brands: Mercedes has two models in the Portuguese Top 11 in August: the A-Class is up 7 spots on July to #7 with 140 sales and 2.3% and the E-Class is up 18 ranks and 69% to #11 at 125 units and 2%.
The other star of the month in Portugal is the Renault Captur: up 7 spots on last month, it reaches an excellent 6th position with 2.6% share, the model’s highest monthly ranking outside of France so far. For comparison, the Peugeot 2008 is down 10 ranks to #33 this month. Other great performers include the Seat Leon up 34 ranks to #18, the Honda Civic up 14 to #22 and the Dacia Sandero up 326% year-on-year to #23.
