Mexico June 2013: VW Clasico teases Chevrolet Aveo for first place

Another very solid month for new car sales in Mexico: up 7% year-on-year in June to 83,713 registrations, the best June figure in the country since 2006 (87,083) and the 38th year-on-year increase in the last 40 months. This brings the year-to-date total halfway through 2013 just above the half-million mark at 501,987 units, up 9% on 2012. All the signs point to a millionaire year in Mexico in 2013 as the second half is traditionally stronger than the first. If we keep the 9% increase ratio on 2012 we come to 1.077 million sales by year end in 2013, which would be the first time in 5 years that over one million vehicles are sold annually in the country.

Chevrolet Sonic

In the models ranking, even though the Chevrolet Aveo delivers its 19th consecutive month in pole position thanks to 5,090 sales and 6.1% share, for the first time during this reign it had to put up a fight with the #2, the VW Clasico which finished the month only 81 units short of the Aveo at 5,009 sales, up a very impressive 48% year-on-year. Year-to-date however, the Aveo is still comfortably installed in its throne at 31,150 units and 6.2% (+14%) vs. 25,866 and 5.2% (+50%) for the Clasico.

Chevrolet Trax

Further down, the Nissan Tsuru enjoys an nth wind (we lost count by now!), up 22% on June 2012 to reclaim a spot on the podium at #3 and pass the Nissan Versa once again. The Nissan Chasis Largo is up 2 spots on May to #6, while the Chevrolet Sonic breaks into the monthly Mexican Top 10 for only the 2nd time ever after last July, up to a best-ever #8 with 2,274 sales and 2.7% share. Finally, notice the Chevrolet Trax up to 1,641 units and 2%, new volume and share records for the nameplate in Mexico.
