As a follow-up to my articles World: How the Chinese are setting themselves up for success (Part 5: Mature markets) and UK: 50 electric BYD e6 to be shipped in for use as London taxis, you may be interested to know that the much talked-about batch of 50 BYD e6 have now arrived in the UK: the were offloaded at Southampton docks and are in the process of being registered.
BYD announced yesterday that five-door hatchbacks have been fully homologated for use on European roads. Already on sale in China since October 2011, the BYD e6 has a range of 186 miles (300 km) and can reach a top speed of 140 km/h). The all-electric vehicle is already used by fleet operators in China, Columbia and Hong Kong. Romanian website Autoevolution says the cars will be going into service with a number of fleets, including private hire operations that will allow passengers to experience them.
