Malaysia March 2012: Perodua Alza up to #4

Malaysian car sales are down 18% year-on-year in March to 50,248 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 130,001 units, down 15% on 2011. Traditionally extremely stable, the models ranking podium stays unchanged for the 4th consecutive month and is also identical to the Full Year 2011 ranking: the Perodua MyVi leads the way with 7,737 sales and 15.4% share, followed by the Proton Saga at 6,474 units and 12.9% and the Perodua Viva with 4,751 sales and 9.5%.
However the 4th best-selling model in the country is now the Perodua Alza both this month with 3,474 units and 6.9% and year-to-date at 9,656 sales and 7.4%, passing the Proton Persona. The Toyota Avanza, boosted by the new generation, more than doubles its market share vs. February at 2.6% and #9 thanks to 1,314 sales.
Other great performers this month include the Kia Sportage up from outside the Top 50 last month to #23, the VW Passat beautifully holding itself within the Malaysian Top 25 at #24, the Honda CR-Z up 16 spots to #28 and the Peugeot 308 staying robust at #30. There are 2 newcomers in the Top 50, both in their first full month of sales in the country: the Nissan NV200 at #41 and the Toyota Prius c at #42.
