In the UK February is traditionally a very slow month as consumers await the March license plate change, and 2012 is no exception, with the market down 2% year-on-year to 61,868 registrations. For the very first time since the launch of the new generation and the first time since January 2011, the Ford Focus tops the UK models ranking with 3,713 sales and 6% share.
Once unbeatable and leader for 10 consecutive years between 1999 and 2008, the Ford Focus had not managed to take advantage of the new model to reclaim its crown from the Fiesta. Is this the start of the Focus recovery? March data will give us a better indication. The Ford Fiesta stays ahead in the year-to-date ranking however at 10,723 units and 5.3%.
Very solid month for the VW Golf at #3 with 2,857 sales and the Vauxhall Corsa at #4 only 2 sales below, both at 4.6% share. The VW Passat (#6) and BMW 3 Series (#9) make their reappearance in the Top 10 this month.
