The Malaysian new car market is down again this month at -23% and 39,854 registrations, bringing the 2010 year-to-date total into negative for the first time at -1% and 286,705 sales.
As the Perodua Myvi’s sales are still disrupted by the arrival of the new generation (down to #6 this month!), the Proton Saga improves its market share further to reach a record-breaking 15.5% this month thanks to 6,192 sales. Its 2011 market share stands at 13.9% with 39,841 units, now largely in the lead ahead of the Myvi (11.6%).
Below the Perodua Viva stable at 10.9%, the Proton Persona stays 3rd and breaks the 10% market share barrier possibly for the first time in the nameplate’s life at 10.1% and 4,020 sales. The Perodua Alza also has a brilliant month in 4th place at 6.8% and 2,704 sales, ahead of the Toyota Yaris. The Proton Inspira is up 2 spots on May at #11.
Two hybrid models return to very high levels in the country after an off May: the Honda Insight is #18 (+34) and the Toyota Prius is #31 (+22). The VW Golf also does very well this month, up 10 spots on May to #26.
