New Zealand May 2011: Toyota Hilux leads the way
Like in neighbour Australia, passenger car sales in New Zealand are hit by stock shortages due to the Japan earthquake and are down 2% at 4,535 units. Conversely, light commercials are up 13% at 2,028, helped by a strong sales push surrounding Fieldays, the ‘largest agricultural event in the Southern Hemisphere’, set for mid-June.
In this context the Toyota Hilux jumps to the top of the queue with an imposing 450 sales and 6.9% of the overall market and should also take the lead year-to-date at 1,727 units and 5%. The Nissan Navara takes the 2nd spot with 337 sales (5.1%), followed by the Suzuki Swift (4.4%) and Ford Ranger (3.2%).
