Italy 2009: Fiat Punto, Panda and Ford Fiesta all stronger

Car sales in Italy are stable in 2009 at 2,157,791 units. The Fiat Punto is the best selling model in the country for the 16th year in a row, but God was it hard! Its sales grow by 16% to 182,741 units and 8.5% share, but in the meantime, the Fiat Panda continued its amazing career, improving its market share for the 6th year in a row at 8% thanks to 171,887 units, the highest ever volume in Italy for this generation.
The Fiat Panda reached its best-ever monthly market share (for this generation) in April and May at a massive 8.8%, after breaking the 8% barrier for the first time in February. Boosted by the new generation, the Ford Fiesta climbs back onto the podium with 106,260 sales and 4.9% share, peaking at 5.8% in November and relegating the Fiat 500 in 4th place at 3.7%.
The VW Golf is up 7 spots at #5 with 2.6%, ahead of the Opel Corsa, Lancia Ypsilon and Peugeot 207. The Nissan Qashqai reaches its best ever position in Italy in January at #7 with 2.2% while the Chevroet Matiz does so in May at #9. The Alfa Romeo Mi.To is the best selling new entrant in the Top 50 at #17 with 29,299 units and 1.4%, it holds a best-ever 11th position in April.
Other models reaching their best score this year in Italy include the Opel Agila, #9 in February, the Lancia Musa, #11 in July, the Hyundai i10, #13 in June and the new generation Lancia Delta, #18 in May
