Spain 2003: Seat Ibiza, Ford Focus and Peugeot 307 on top
New car sales in Spain gain 3.6% year-on-year in 2003 to 1.355.894 units. Renault (+4.1%) is the best-selling brand for the 18th time in the past 19 years, distancing Citroen (+3.4%) and Peugeot (+0.6%) in an unchanged podium. Seat (+2.8%) is up to #4 above Opel (-5.6%), Ford (+9%) and Volkswagen (-1.3%). The Seat Ibiza (+3.8%) resumes its domination of its home market, becoming best-seller for the 5th time in the past 8 years and the 6th time overall. The finish is very close however, with the Ford Focus (+0.5%) only 649 sales below and the Peugeot 307 (+14%) 1.169 weaker, climbing onto its very first Spanish podium finish and pushing the 206 (-3.2%) down to #4. The Renault Megane (+32.9%) is up 3 spots to return inside the Top 5 ahead of the Renault Clio (+5.5%) up one to #6. The Ibiza holds 4.9% of the Spanish market and the Clio holds 4%, meaning the Top 6 is within less than one percentage point… The Citroen C3 (+221.3%) ends its first full year of sales inside the Top 10 at #9 and the most popular new launch for 2003 is the Opel Meriva (#36). Citroen (+9.9%) holds onto the LCV brands top spot above Renault (+8.9%) and Nissan (+18%) with the Renault Kangoo (+2.2%), Citroen Berlingo (+7%) and Peugeot Partner (+15.2%) still in control of the LCV models order.
