Saudi Arabia 1994: Toyota Cressida leads, GMC Suburban up to #2

The GMC Suburban is only outsold by the Toyota Cressida in 1994.

New car sales in Saudi Arabia fall further into oblivion in 1994, down -5.4% YoY to just 103,042. Toyota (+1.8%) for once behaves better than the market and climbs back up to 34.9% share. The next four carmakers all lose ground. Nissan (-9.4%) stays at #2 ahead of GMC (-0.2%) stable and improving to 8.8% share at #3, Mitsubishi (-24.6%) and Chevrolet (-32.1%). In contrast Hyundai is up 45.1% and four spots on last year to #6, Ford is up 15.1%, Suzuki up 18.1% and Kia up 39.9%.

Over in the models lane, the Toyota Cressida (+12.5%) brilliantly lodges a third consecutive annual win and is back above the 10% share threshold at 10.5%. The GMC Suburban (+13.6%) is up two ranks to a record 2nd place overall with 8% share, accounting for 91% of the brand’s volume. The Toyota Hilux (-11.1%) and Nissan Datsun (-21.8%) are both in difficulty and retrograde one spot to #3 and #4 respectively. The Toyota Land Cruiser 100 surges 38.4% to #5, overtaking the Chevrolet Caprice (-33.6%) and Toyota Corolla (-32.3%). The Toyota Camry (-4%) repeats at #8 while the Nissan Maxima (+41.1%) delivers the biggest gain in the Top 10. Notice also the Toyota Tercel (+59.1%) up to #11 for its first full year of sales in the country.
