Norway 1993-1994: VW Golf and Ford Mondeo strong

The Norwegian new car market goes from 61,000 registrations in 1993 to 85,000 in 1994, and the VW Golf leads both years with 3,970 sales and 6.5% in ’93 and 6,903 and 8.1% in ’94. #2 in ’93, the Opel Astra drops to #3 in ’94 but keeps the same 6.1% market share. The Ford Mondeo manages to rank #4 with 5% share in ’93 even though it was launched during the year. It is up to #2 with 6,100 units and 7.2% in ’94. The Toyota Corolla ranks #3 in ’93 and #4 in ’94.
Notice also the Mazda 323 and 626 at #7 and #8 respectively in ’93, the Volvo 850 up 19 spots to #7 in ’94, the Opel Corsa up 10 to #8, the Peugeot 306 up 9 to #13 and the Citroen Xantia up 16 to #19. There are 4 Hyundais in the Norwegian Top 50 in ’94: the Sonata is #26, the Pony #31, the Accent #45 and the Lantra #48.
