China 1991: Volkswagen sells 3 times more than any other brand

The VW Santana is the best-selling vehicle in China in 1991.

501,838 new vehicles were registered in China in 1991, a 38.3% year-on-year surge. Volkswagen leads the way with over 50,000 sales, well above Isuzu (just under 15,000), Toyota (almost 12,800) and Beijing Jeep (11,300). FAW Tianjin rounds out the Top 5 above Daihatsu, Nissan and Qingling. Jiangling and Iveco complete the Top 10. Model-wise, the VW Santana dominates ahead of the VW Bora and Isuzu N-Series. The Beijing Jeep Cherokee and FAW Tianjin Xiali follow, with the Daihatsu Delta, Qingling N-Series and Jiangling N-Series in tow.
