Contrary to neighbour Australia where the Ford Falcon is ultra-dominant with 15.3% of the market, in New Zealand the Holden Commodore is the best-selling nameplate for 1987, and with 9.888 sales this year it hits the highest annual tally for any model since 1973. This way the Commodore reclaims the top spot that was held for the past 3 years by the Toyota Corolla, with the Ford Falcon rounding up the podium. The Mitsubishi Mirage, Ford Laser and Mitsubishi Sigma are other strong sellers in the country.
