France 1965: Citroen repeats at #1, places Ami 6 at #2
The Citroen Ami 6 is up to 2nd place in France in 1965.
Sales of domestic vehicles in France edge down -1.2% year-on-year in 1965 but remain above the million for the third consecutive year. Citroen (+1%) remains the most popular carmaker in the country with 34% share, holding off Renault (+3.8%) at 32%. Peugeot (+3.9%) improves to 17.1% while Simca (-12.2%) drops to #4. Panhard (-60.8%) craters and falls to #7 overall.
The Renault 4 (+12.9%) is the favourite of French carbuyers for the four straight year, reaching 14.1% share. It is followed by the Citroen Ami 6 (+28.9%) soaring three spots on last year to #2, now the brand’s best-seller above the 2 CV (-15.8%) down to #3. The Peugeot 404 (-11.6%) and Renault 8 (-41.6%) both struggle below and complete the Top 5. The Citroen ID-DS (+0.7%) resets at #6.
