France 1962: Renault 4 takes control
The Renault 4 is the best-selling vehicle in France for its first full year in market.
Sales of French cars in France shoot up 23.3% in 1962 to 976,547 units. Renault (+49.8%) overtakes Citroen (+21.3%) to snap the brands pole position with 31.6% of the market. Simca (+7.2%) and Peugeot (+10.9%) trail the market below as does Panhard (+20%) at #5. Model-wise, the Renault R4 (and R3) end their first full year in market at #1 with 12.3% share. The Citroen 2 CV (-4.3%) is stuck in 2nd place but would rank #1 if when adding the LCV variant. The Peugeot 404 (+22.8%) repeats at #3 ahead of the Renault Dauphine (-39.2%) soon to be discontinued. The Simca 1000 rounds the Top 5 for its first full year of sales, distancing the Citroen Ami 6 (+434.6%), Citroen ID-DS (+8.4%) and Peugeot 403 (-1.3%).
